Microsoft phát hành Windows Server 8 bản beta
Vài ngày sau khi tung ra bản dùng thử Windows 8 Consumer Preview cho công chúng, Microsoft đã phát hành phiên bản beta của hệ điều hành Windows Server 8 dành cho máy chủ.
Theo Bill Laing, Phó chủ tịch phụ trách bộ phận máy chủ và đám mây, cho biết trong phiên bản cập nhật quan trọng này, Windows Server 8 có nhiều cải tiến về tính năng ảo hóa, quản lý nhiều máy và lưu trữ ứng dụng.
Với tính năng ảo hóa, Windows Server 8 cho phép nhà quản trị xây dựng các mạng ảo, giúp các đơn vị kinh doanh hay khách hàng khác nhau chia sẻ một mạng vật lý duy nhất trong khi vẫn hoàn toàn không phụ thuộc vào các mạng ảo khác.
Nhằm giúp phục hồi hỏng hóc và hoạt động liên tục, có một tính năng mới khác cho phép chia sẻ tập tin giữa các máy con mà không làm gián đoạn các ứng dụng máy chủ đang sử dụng các tập tin này.
Về khả năng lưu trữ ứng dụng, Windows Server 8 có bản sao .NET Framework 4.5, gồm các tính năng mới để chạy một chương trình cùng lúc qua nhiều nhân của bộ xử lý. Phần mềm máy chủ Web IIS (Internet Information Server) đã được nâng cấp để cung cấp giải pháp cô lập để bảo mật tốt hơn và quản lý nhiều trang web hơn trên mỗi máy chủ. Giao diện dòng lệnh PowerShell đã được tăng cường với thêm 2.300 lệnh.
Để chạy phiên bản beta miễn phí này, máy chủ phải có BXL 64-bit 1,4 GHz, bộ nhớ vận hành ít nhất 512MB và dung lượng 32GB còn trống trên đĩa. Người dùng có thể nâng cấp lên HĐH beta mới này từ phiên bản Windows Server 2008 và Windows Server 2008 R2 đang dùng, nhưng sẽ không thể nâng cấp lên các phiên bản tiếp theo của phiên bản này.
